Italy Glacier Collapse Kills Seven, Injures Eight

Rescue Efforts Continue as 14 Remain Missing

At least seven people have been killed and eight injured after a chunk of a glacier collapsed in the Dolomites in Italy on Sunday, local officials said. Fourteen people are still missing and rescue efforts are underway.

The incident happened on the Marmolada glacier, the largest glacier in the Dolomite mountain range. Officials said a large section of the glacier broke off and slid down the mountain, hitting hikers and climbers who were on the glacier at the time.

Rescue teams from across Italy are searching for the missing people, but the search operation has been hampered by the unstable conditions of the glacier and the risk of further avalanches.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but experts say it may have been triggered by rising temperatures due to climate change, which has been causing glaciers to melt and become unstable.
